Smart Wireless Body Area Networks in 6G
The IoT is rapidly growing. 5G is emerging and 6G is on the horizon. More and more, our personal devices, even highly miniature sensor devices, are being endowed with powerful edge processing and computing capabilities. This includes wireless body area networks and related devices. In this presentation we examine the status of WBAN today and present a view to the future of smart body area networks (SmartBAN) and the IoT in 6G. We take a holistic view, considering smart body area networks from a system perspective and taking into account wearables, nearables and “virtuals”. The presentation starts with an overview of the-of the-art in wireless body are a networks. The status of developments and current plans in ETSI TC SmartBAN are presented. The potential evolution of smart body area networks in the future IoT and 6G from higher frequencies to AI / ML enabled security, privacy and trust.
