Jyrki Schroderus, Polar

Dr. Schroderus graduated with Ph.D. (Physics) from Oulu University in 2004. Between 2001 and 2007 he worked in patent industry with a large variety of technologies. From 2007 up to date, he has been assigned with various duties at Polar Electro, from 2014 as a Research Director. His team has focused on non-invasive biometric measurement technology and associated sports and fitness applications.

Challenges of Future Wireless Technologies in Wearable Devices

The degrees of freedom in the design of wearable devices are tightly defined by boundary conditions which originate from the actual wearability of the device. Primary wearability parameters include the physical size and weight of the device which are mostly due to the battery and display. The battery size, on the other hand is a requirement for adequate processing power and telecommunication capability, which can be optimized as cloud based computing and especially artificial intelligence solutions are available. Dr. Schroderus’ presentation deals with the general problem field of wearable devices in order to provide insight for future telecommunication technology requirements.
